Kaiser Permanente Selects Passlogix v-GO Platform to Provide Application Single Sign-on
Rollout Will Cover 130,000 Users in 400+ Facilities
June 13, 2006 — New York, NY; Passlogix®, Inc., announced today that Kaiser Permanente, America’s leading integrated healthcare organization, has selected the Passlogix v-GO® Sign-On Platform™ to simplify user authentication to hundreds of clinical and business software applications through enterprise single sign-on (ESSO) technology. The v-GO solution will be deployed to 130,000 users in more than 400 facilities to eliminate the security, administrative, and usability problems associated with requiring a different password for each application.
Kaiser Permanente will be deploying four of the products in the v-GO Sign-On Platform to support its full range of application access needs. This includes v-GO SSO for enterprise single sign-on for managed single-user desktops, v-GO SM for shared clinical workstations, and v-GO AM for proximity badges currently being deployed as well as other strong authentication solutions that may be added in the future. v-GO PM will be deployed for interoperability with the organization’s IBM Tivoli Identity Manager provisioning system.
A key factor in Kaiser Permanente’s adoption of the Passlogix platform was v-GO’s rapid deployment ability, reflecting patented client-side intelligence that eliminates the need to write scripts or connectors even to homegrown or legacy applications. Other considerations included the ability to use existing servers without adding dedicated or proprietary hardware, accommodate different forms of strong authentication for different users and applications, and maintain the system with minimal effort and cost.
The v-GO Sign-On Platform will be rolled out on a phased basis beginning this month.
“Multiple IDs and passwords create substantial inefficiency in the process of providing quality care to our members and can result in decreased security through how our system users attempt to deal with this complexity,” said Nathan Harris, Kaiser Permanente Enterprise security architect. “Additionally, since we have a very large number of business applications, Passlogix offered us a solution with proven scalability to support enterprises our size, superior ease of implementation to support our large number of applications, and a low total cost of ownership.”
“This contract directly reflects the depth, breadth and ease of implementation of our v-GO platform as well as the growing demand for single sign-on in the healthcare industry,” said Marc Boroditsky, President and CEO of Passlogix. “Our ability to meet the needs of an organization of Kaiser Permanente’s size and requirements is a clear validation of our product architecture and the broad capabilities of our product suite.”
v-GO’s single sign-on capabilities eliminate the need for end users to remember multiple passwords to access each application, database or account. Users enter a single network password when they log on for the day, and v-GO replaces all other passwords with an automatically generated hacker-proof string of random characters that users never know or touch. This reduces security gaps, administrative overhead, user frustration and password reset calls to the helpdesk. It also supports regulatory compliance efforts associated with protecting personal and business information.
The platform is quickly and easily implemented in enterprises of all sizes, can support sign-on to any type of Windows, mainframe or Web application without modification or significant implementation cost; and includes complementary products that simplify the deployment of identity management and strong authentication technologies.
