Passlogix Adds Strong Authentication Services to Sign-On Support for Healthcare Enterprises
New Consulting Division Plus New Sign-on Products Tailored to Healthcare Needs
February 25, 2008 — New York, NY; Passlogix®, Inc., today announced a broad expansion of its sign-on products and services for the healthcare industry. The new offerings include consulting services for strong authentication implementations as well as additions to the company’s v-GO® Sign-on Platform™ designed to provide fast and secure application access in the healthcare environment.
Passlogix has established a dedicated strong authentication team that is available to assist healthcare organizations in planning, spec’ing and deploying any mix of authentication technologies, including proximity badges, biometrics, smart cards and tokens. Passlogix consultants can recommend solutions for each department in the hospital or other healthcare facility, supply the selected devices, and provide deployment support.
These services aid healthcare enterprises in equipping physicians and other personnel with rapid HIPAA-compliant access to clinical information. When used with an enterprise single sign-on solution like v-GO Single Sign-On (v-GO SSO), two-factor authentication provides an additional level of security without the burden of requiring users to remember a different password for each application.
In addition, Passlogix has recently expanded its v-GO platform with a new solution that simplifies the management of strong authentication devices plus two new sign-on technologies that offer particular advantages for nurses who must access applications with shared passwords as well as physicians who require remote access to the healthcare network. These products are:
v-GO Credential Manager (v-GO CM), the first solution that can centrally issue, manage and revoke any kind of strong authentication device. v-GO CM automates the management of authenticators through the entire lifecycle and can handle any combination of device types or brands. In the healthcare environment, this provides the option to issue one kind of authenticator for physicians, another kind for the billing department, and so on.
v-GO Shared Accounts Manager (v-GO SAM), the first tool that allows administrators to securely manage shared credentials through the same enterprise single sign-on infrastructure used to manage regular application passwords. For healthcare enterprises, this can facilitate HIPAA compliance related to applications requiring nursing personnel to share IDs and passwords while also controlling access to privileged accounts used by system administrators. The product issues usernames and passwords from a central container dedicated to shared accounts and imposes a variety of controls that prevent password sharing as well as establishing a single point of accountability for all activity on a given system.
v-GO On Demand Edition, the only enterprise single sign-on solution that can be accessed with on demand, either by a click on a web link or pre-loaded on USB memory sticks, with no need for software installation in either case. Because v-GO On Demand Edition runs as a full application rather than just in the browser, it provides full single sign-on functionality. In addition to simplifying single sign-on deployments overall, this makes it possible for hospitals to extend single sign-on to physicians who need to log onto their primary hospital network from their private practice office, university office, another hospital, home or any other remote location.
These new offerings enhance the sign-on solutions that Passlogix previously offered for healthcare enterprises, including v-GO SSO for single sign-on to individual machines and v-GO Session Manager (v-GO SM) for single sign-on to clinical kiosks and shared workstations.
