Passlogix Secures & Simplifies Workstation Access For Healthcare Providers With v-GO Session Manager

Adds Native Support for Proximity Badges, Context Management

February 26, 2007 — New Orleans, LA (HIMSS07 Conference); Passlogix®, Inc., today announced a series of upgrades to its v-GO® Session Manager (v-GO SM™) for providing easy and secure user access to clinical kiosks, and shared workstations. v GO SM now offers out-of-the-box integration with Ensure Technologies’ XyLoc proximity badges, enabling the use of strong two-factor user authentication in kiosk environments. In addition, v-GO SM has received interoperability certification for Fusion from Carefx™, the Carefx Corporation offering that uses context management technology to provide clinicians with simplified, unified and secure access to patient information.

These and other new features extend v-GO SM’s ability to expedite secure kiosk access and facilitate compliance with HIPAA privacy regulations by quickly authenticating users to shared workstations, rapidly switching sessions between users without the need for a Windows logoff, and automatically suspending and terminating open kiosk applications after a predefined period of inactivity. v-GO SM is a component of the market-leading v GO Sign-On Platform, which has sold more than 6 million licenses including 500,000+ to healthcare organizations from community health systems to Kaiser Permanente.

“Clinicians need fast, simple, secure and accurate access to patient data on shared workstations,” said Tom Cleveland, information technology security analyst for the four-hospital University of North Carolina Health System, another v-GO user. “These upgrades to v-GO Session Manager simplify this requirement and ensure that kiosk users can access patient information quickly and efficiently.”

Native Integration with XyLoc Proximity Badges
The addition of built-in XyLoc support enables v-GO SM to use both PIN numbers and XyLoc badges for secure user authentication to shared workstations without complex and expensive back-end integration. The v-GO platform can now prompt users to enter their PIN numbers as soon as the kiosk detects the presence of the badge. v-GO SM can also be configured to keep a session open for pre-defined period, rather than immediately suspending it, when a XyLoc user temporarily steps out of range.

“An increasing number of our healthcare customers are seeking an integrated solution that combines the security and strength of the XyLoc Badges for user authentication and an enterprise single sign-on solution for application authentication,” said David Shook, senior vice president of sales at Ensure Technologies. “v-GO SM streamlines this process by eliminating the need for custom development work.”

Single Sign-on to CCOW & Non-CCOW-Enabled Applications
v-GO SM’s certification to interoperate with Fusion from Carefx delivers an integrated solution for kiosk-based sign-on and context management. When a user authenticates to a shared workstation, v-GO SM natively sets the user context within Fusion to enable seamless access to synchronized data in both CCOW and non-CCOW-aware applications. The interoperability also provides enhanced reporting capabilities.

“Over 200 hospitals worldwide have selected our Fusion from Carefx to streamline clinical workflow by aggregating patient data across disparate applications, and shared workstations are a critical component of making clinicians’ lives easier,” said David Ward, vice president of business development for Carefx Corporation. “Our certification of Passlogix v-GO SM ensures that kiosk users can take full advantage of our ability to provide expedient and intuitive access to the relevant patient data needed to make informed clinical decisions.”

New Flexibility for Session Management Other enhancements strengthen v-GO SM’s ability to control user login and application logoff in kiosk environments as well as in non-kiosk mode. These features include:

All upgrades are available immediately as part of the latest release of v-GO SM.

The v-GO Sign-On Platform also includes other modules that simplify the process of implementing and integrating secure single sign-on technology into the overall identity infrastructure. Other modules extend v-GO’s single sign-on capabilities to any form of strong authentication, provide an open platform for managing strong authentication credentials, enable identity provisioning systems to automatically inject user credentials into v-GO SSO, and provide self-service reset of forgotten Windows passwords.
