Passlogix Aids Compliance with UK's GCSx Code of Connection
Helps Local Authorities Meet CoCo Criteria to Ensure Secure File Transfers
Jan 26, 2010 — New York, NY;
Passlogix®, Inc., today announced that its v-GO Access Accelerator Suite can help local authorities in the UK meet the March 31 deadline for complying with the GCSx Code of Connection (CoCo 4.1) by providing key information access controls, including a complete audit trail that identifies each user who accesses an application using either individual and shared passwords. CoCo regulates security for all organizations connecting to the Government Secure Extranet (GCSx) to ensure safe information sharing within the UK government’s wide area network.
Officeholders and employees at local authorities can use v-GO Single Sign-On, the market’s leading enterprise single sign-on (ESSO) solution, to access applications and databases with a single Windows logon instead of using a different password for each account. v-GO Shared Accounts Manager, a companion solution, can be used to control and track the usage of credentials shared by users such as system administrators.
Used together, these and other v-GO solutions can help local authorities fulfill CoCo security requirements by:
- Recording user network activity, including successful login/logout, unsuccessful login/logout, and unauthorized application access.
- Enforcing complex password policies, such as requiring passwords with a seven-character minimum or alphanumeric passwords with at least one digit.
- Concealing both individual and shared passwords from the user, thereby eliminating the security risks associated with maintaining a written record of one’s password library, password sharing, or sabotage by rogue administrators.
- Managing and auditing privileged user accounts, typically used by system and/or network administrators and third-party partners or contractors working on an organization’s IT systems, so that access is granted only to authorized individuals and all shared account usage is tied back to the actual user. v-GO is the only single sign-on system with shared account management capabilities.
- Supporting two-factor authentication to applications, as required by CoCo, without requiring that applications be customized or modified.
v-GO also helps reduce helpdesk costs related to password resets, increase end user productivity, and eliminate user frustration related to creating, managing, remembering and inputting different passwords for each Windows, Terminal Services, Citrix, mainframe or Web application, account or database.
“Enterprise single sign-on is the fastest and most cost-effective way of meeting CoCo requirements related to tracking users of GCSx-connected applications, implementing strong password policies, and securing applications against unauthorized access. It also has a host of other administrative, regulatory compliance and time-saving benefits,” said John Handelaar, Vice President of EMEA for Passlogix. “With over 21 million licenses and most comprehensive feature set of any ESSO solution, v-GO is the logical choice for local authorities facing CoCo compliance deadlines.”
The v-GO Access Accelerator Suite deploys rapidly with wizard-based integration that eliminates the need to write scripts or connectors even to homegrown or legacy applications, and installs on existing servers without adding dedicated or proprietary hardware. These features lower the total cost of ownership and allow organizations to receive rapid payback on their investment.
v-GO Access Accelerator Suite 7.0 is compatible with Windows 7, Windows XP Professional (SP2), Windows Server 2003, and Windows Vista Business Edition, as well as Windows Terminal Server and Citrix MetaFrame and Presentation Server thin-client computing environments.
