Passlogix Sign-On Solutions for The Insurance Industry

InsuranceIt’s an all-too-common scenario: your agent, whether on site or at the customer’s home, needs to access policy or rate information. But he forgets his password and can’t log onto the network. The customer grows impatient, and thinks about getting his insurance elsewhere.

The Passlogix v-GO® Sign-on Platform is the solution. By giving all your agents, whether at the office or in the field, a single, easy-to-remember password for all their applications, the Passlogix v-GO Platform ensures that agents, adjusters, and other employees can access policies and other customer information when and where they need it … enabling them to deliver a superior level.

Strong password protection
But in addition to giving employees controlled access to applications, the Passlogix v-GO Platform also keeps customer financial data secure. Here’s how:

Passlogix v-GO Single Sign-On (SSO) enables users to log in once with a single password. Once users are logged in, whatever application they open is served the correct ID and password from v-GO SSO transparently and automatically.

The system eliminates the need for users to remember and manage multiple usernames and passwords for all their applications. Strong passwords – those that are complex and frequently changed – can be used, because they are stored in an encrypted database that is transparent to the user.

As a result, insurance firms implementing the v-GO Sign-on Platform will have an easier time complying with increased regulatory scrutiny of the insurance industry….

Gramm-Leach, SMART, and Sarbanes-Oxley
The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) requires insurance companies and other financial services institutions to keep customer financial data private. The penalties for noncompliance are stiff: fines of up to $1 million and criminal penalties of up to 10 years in prison. {GJ} The financial services industry’s spending on GLBA compliance will reach $170 million in 2006.

Sarbanes-Oxley (SO) has placed an added burden on insurance carriers and other firms to ensure accuracy in their financial reporting and statements. Estimates to achieve SO compliance range from $1.6 million to $4.4 million per company per year.

In addition, the proposed State Modernization and Regulatory Transparency (SMART) Act could provide an optional federal charter, subjecting larger insurance companies that do business nationwide to further federal regulation.

Remote access for field agents
Insurance sales professionals often work remotely, so the Passlogix solutions support agents who are disconnected from the network.

Passlogix’s v-GO Single Sign-On (SSO) solution features a client-based architecture, enabling agents to cache their authentication credentials on their notebook PCs. This gives your agents single sign-on capability even when they are not connected to the network.

In addition, v-GO SSO authenticates directly from the desktop or notebook client, eliminating the cost of dedicated services and related response time issues. If agents forget their password, v-GO Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) allows users to reset their password directly, without having to call the help desk. Again helping to ensure that customers are serviced quickly regardless of the agent’s location.
